Let's Talk about Colour

Often we see inspiration in nature. The fall creates numerous colour combinations that can be mimicked in your own garden to provide a natural aesthetic. It is important to not only look at the spring interest colour, but the fall as well. This ensures you have a 3-season interest (sometimes 4 if you choose winter interest plants such as Red Osier Dogwood or Winterberry!) Plant species combinations that can provide a full year of colour interest include:

-Cercis canadensis Red Bud
-Chamaecyparis pisifera filifera 'Sungold' Sungold Threadleaf False Cypress
-Berberis thunbergii 'Rose Glow' Rose Glow Japanese Barberry
-Echinacea 'Sunset-Big Sky' Sunset Big Sky Coneflower

This plant combination also provides various form shapes to create more than just a colourful visual interest. Great for small to medium size garden plots!

Colour inspiration is from this fall shot in Huntsville, Ontario (2012).
